Does your car smell like rotten wood burning?

If you drive a manual transmission, chances are you'll smell something like burning rotten wood. This could be the cause of the clutch slipping. The friction material on the clutch gets so hot that it'll produce a burning smell.

The cause of this friction could be from improper use of the clutch pedal. If you have the habit of driving using the clutch pedal as a foot rest, you may want to learn to adjust it. Another cause could be the clutch needs some work, and it is time to replace it.

Here are some symptoms of a clutch issues:

  • You step on the gas pedal and your car hesitates to move.
  • When you shift, the transmission is hard to get into gear.
  • Your transmission makes grinding noise when shifting
  • You could smell awful rotten wood burning fumes
